After years with my trusty Echo Show 5, I finally upgraded to the Echo Show 8 – and wow, what a difference! The 8-inch HD touchscreen makes everything from video calls to recipe browsing so much more enjoyable. Spatial audio fills my kitchen with surprisingly rich sound while I cook, and the auto-framing camera keeps me centered during video calls (no more awkward chin shots!).
The smart home integration is where this device truly shines. Controlling my Zigbee-compatible lights with just my voice feels like magic, and being able to pull up my Arlo camera feed by saying "Alexa, show me the front door" has become a daily lifesaver. The new Top Connections widget makes calling my mom as easy as tapping once – no more fumbling through menus!
I do have two minor gripes: The adaptive content feature sometimes shows gift ideas I'd rather keep private (note to self: figure out those privacy settings!), and while the stand works fine, I wish mounting options were more versatile for different spaces.
Compared to other smart displays I've tried, the Echo Show 8 strikes the perfect balance between size and functionality. It's compact enough for my nightstand yet powerful enough to serve as my morning alarm/weather reporter/entertainment hub all in one. That recycled materials design is just icing on the cake!
