Let me start by saying this: if you're tired of replacing AirTag batteries every 6-12 months, the TimeCapsule is about to become your new best friend. I've been using these for my camera gear and luggage, and the peace of mind is incredible.
The setup process is straightforward but be warned - prying open the original AirTag case requires serious muscle (or pliers). Once you've transplanted your AirTag's guts into this rugged case though, it's smooth sailing. The fiber-reinforced composite feels bombproof in hand, and the IP69 waterproof rating means I don't worry about my gear during rainy shoots.
What really impressed me was the tracking performance. Even when hidden inside wooden camera cases or buried deep in luggage, my iPhone had no trouble locating them. The slightly reduced speaker volume (about 2/3 of normal) is actually a plus for security purposes.
Now for the downsides: The AA battery compartment does add bulk (4.45" long), making it trickier to conceal than a naked AirTag. I strongly recommend using lithium AAs as suggested - regular alkalines could leak over time. Also wish it included attachment points for easier mounting.
After testing multiple units in different environments, I'm convinced this is the ultimate solution for high-value items you want to track long-term - vehicles, equipment cases, or anything else where frequent battery changes would be impractical. Just be prepared for that initial wrestling match with your original AirTag casing!
