Let me start by saying this: the EnGenius EWS356-FIT is a beast when it comes to performance. After using it for several months in my 2,500 sq ft home, I can confidently say it delivers on its Wi-Fi 6 promises. The dual-band AX3000 speeds are no joke - I consistently get 800-900Mbps on my 5GHz band when standing near the access point.
The setup process was... interesting. Like some reviewers mentioned, it's not exactly plug-and-play. I had to dig out an old Ethernet cable and temporarily assign a static IP to my laptop to configure it. The web interface isn't as intuitive as consumer-grade routers, but once you find the 'Apply Changes' button (hidden under a separate menu), it's smooth sailing.
Where this AP really shines is in coverage. I have mine ceiling-mounted in the center of my house (yes, ceiling placement makes a HUGE difference), and it blankets my entire property with strong signal. Even my backyard gets decent coverage through brick walls - something my old router couldn't manage.
The Band Steering feature is fantastic for mixed-device households. It automatically shifts my phone to 5GHz when I'm near the AP but drops it down to 2.4GHz when I move further away, all without any noticeable transition.
Now for the not-so-great parts: The mesh performance does take a significant hit as some reviewers noted. When I tried using a second unit in wireless mesh mode, speeds dropped by about 60%. For serious mesh networks, you'll want to hardwire these if possible.
Also be warned - no power adapter included! This was annoying since I wanted to test placement before running Ethernet cables. Had to borrow one from an old external hard drive.
For tech-savvy users who want enterprise-grade features at a reasonable price, this is a solid choice. But if you're looking for simple plug-and-play, you might want to consider more consumer-friendly options.
