Okay, so I've been using these Virego black filters as replacements for my Berkey system for about 3 months now. Here's the real tea:
First off - installation was a breeze if you're familiar with priming Berkey filters. Pro tip though: DON'T throw away your rubber priming button from the original filters! These don't come with one (why tho?).
The water flow is definitely faster than with OG Berkey filters. Some people might see this as a pro, but personally I prefer the slower filtration - makes me feel like it's working harder to clean my water.
Taste-wise? Can't complain. My tap water is pretty gnarly (city water problems), but after filtration it's crisp and clean. No weird aftertastes or anything sketchy.
Biggest question mark for me is the heavy metal removal claims. The packaging says it reduces them, but like...by how much? Would love to see some actual test results.
For the price though? Solid alternative while we wait for official Berkey filters to come back in stock. Just don't expect miracles if your water is extra contaminated.
