I picked up this book hoping for a clear, beginner-friendly guide to car mechanics. The simple drawings and pictures initially caught my eye, making complex parts seem approachable.
In practice, I found the book delivers some useful basic knowledge about car components. My teenage nephew actually enjoyed flipping through it during his auto shop class - the visuals helped him recognize parts under the hood.
However, the reading experience is frustrating at times. I noticed several abrupt sentence endings and missing descriptions that made me pause. The black-and-white diagrams would be much more helpful with colored arrows highlighting specific parts.
While it covers 'what' things are decently well, I kept wishing for more explanation about 'why' certain components matter. For the same price range, YouTube tutorials or 'Auto Repair for Dummies' might offer better value with clearer explanations.
The book works okay as a very basic reference, but don't expect deep insights. If you're serious about learning auto repair, you'll probably want to supplement this with other resources.
