Let me start by saying, these lures are BEASTS. The first thing you'll notice when unboxing is their substantial size - we're talking small bluegill proportions that barely fit in standard tackle boxes. But that's exactly what makes them so effective for targeting trophy bass, pike, and walleye.
The multi-jointed steel construction is a game-changer. Unlike cheaper lures with fabric connections that wear out, these maintain their action through multiple catches. I've personally dragged these through rocky areas and they've held up beautifully - no broken joints even after snagging on submerged logs.
Where these lures really shine is their action in the water. The built-in rattle creates vibrations that predatory fish can't resist. During testing at my local bass lake, I watched several large fish follow the lure all the way to the boat before striking. The realistic swimming motion, especially on a slow retrieve with occasional pauses, is absolutely deadly.
Some important notes from my field testing:
- The Mustad hooks are razor sharp out of the package - handle with care!
- They do tend to collect weeds in shallow areas
- The tail section is slightly less durable than the main body
- You'll want to use heavier gear - these aren't panfish lures
At this price point for three quality lures, they're an incredible value. While they may be too large for some freshwater applications, they're perfect when you're specifically targeting larger predators. After landing several 4+ pound bass during my testing period, these have earned a permanent spot in my go-to tackle box.
