Okay so I've been using this VQ PET monitor for about 3 weeks now with my diabetic schnauzer Max, and here's the real tea ☕
The good stuff first: This thing is WAY more affordable than vet-grade monitors. Like hello, 50 strips included? That's a steal compared to what my vet charges. The readings have been pretty consistent with our vet visits too!
BUT (and this is a big but) you need like... vampire amounts of blood I'm not kidding. First few tries were total fails because I couldn't get enough blood from Max's ear. Pro tip: Warm the ear first and use the lancet on the inner ear flap - game changer!
The strips are kinda sensitive too. Messed up like 3 before I got the hang of it. Now I always order extra strips because you WILL waste some while learning.
Battery compartment is janky AF though 👎 Gotta slam it shut quick or it pops open. Considering taping it at this point lol.
Overall? For the price, it's decent if you have a medium/large dog. Would NOT recommend for cats or tiny dogs - they just don't have enough blood to spare! Might upgrade to AlphaTrak eventually but for now, this gets the job done.
