Let's talk about the CLC R230 rain boots - these are serious workhorse boots designed to keep your feet dry in tough conditions. The PVC construction feels incredibly durable right out of the box, though that brings me to my first point...
The rubber smell is INTENSE when new. I had to leave mine in the garage for weeks before the odor faded enough to bring indoors. This isn't uncommon for heavy-duty rubber boots, but be prepared for this breaking-in period.
The cleated sole provides excellent traction - I've worn these on slippery warehouse floors and muddy job sites without any slipping issues. However, the stiffness is real. There's zero padding inside, so your feet rest directly on the firm rubber base. After a full 8-hour shift, I definitely felt it.
The 'over-the-sock' sizing fits true (I wear size 10 shoes and the size 10 boot fits perfectly), but putting them on can be a struggle. The tops collapse inward and there's nothing to hold them open - some finger loops would make a world of difference here.
On the plus side, the scalloped top design does help with calf movement once you get them on. And after about two weeks of regular use, they did start to soften up slightly around the foot area.
Bottom line: These are rugged, no-nonsense rain boots that'll protect your feet in wet conditions. Just be ready for some initial odor and stiffness that requires patience to break in.
