I recently got my hands on the Car (DK Definitive Transport Guides), and it's been an absolute joy to explore. The book is massive, packed with stunning visuals and fascinating details about cars from every era.
What I love most is how it’s organized chronologically, taking you from the earliest automobiles right up to the 2000s. Each spread feels like a mini-museum exhibit, with 15-18 cars showcased alongside bite-sized blurbs. It’s perfect for flipping open randomly and getting lost in a specific decade or type of car.
The in-depth features on iconic automotive marques are a standout—they’re like deep dives into car culture. And the two-page spreads dedicated to single models? Gorgeous. The photos are crisp, and the layouts make you feel like you’re browsing a high-end coffee table book (which, technically, you are).
I tried reading it on my iPad Pro, and while zooming is necessary for text and smaller images, it works surprisingly well. That said, I can’t imagine enjoying it as much on a smaller or black-and-white screen—this book demands color and space.
Whether you’re gifting it to a car-loving dad or keeping it for yourself, this is a no-brainer. It’s nostalgic, educational, and visually stunning—a total win for any auto enthusiast.
