Let me start by saying this deck conversion kit is a solid addition to your Advanced Elements kayak. It zips right into place, creating a closed deck that keeps you and your gear protected from sea spray and the elements. The quality of the materials is generally good, and it fits the kayak perfectly.
However, I did encounter some issues. One of the air cells leaked in my initial purchase, which was frustrating. While this might not be the norm (my second purchase was flawless), it's something to be aware of. The company's customer service was excellent though—they replaced the faulty part even though it was just out of warranty.
The deck conversion really shines when you're on longer trips. It provides tons of protected storage inside and ample space to strap additional gear on the deck. I especially appreciated how it kept me dry and warm during colder months—a real game-changer for shoulder season paddling.
That said, there are some design quirks. The zipper can be stubbornly difficult to operate (I had to use silicone spray to help it along), and the excess hatch's velcro closure is practically useless. Also, entering and exiting the kayak becomes noticeably more challenging with the deck installed.
Despite these minor drawbacks, I'm ultimately happy with my purchase. It transforms my convertible kayak into a more versatile vessel, especially for gear-heavy adventures. Just remember to install it before fully inflating your kayak!
