Okay, so I wasn't expecting to fall HARD for this book. The cover looked cute but kinda basic? Boy was I wrong.
The main character Phoebe is SO relatable - she's messy, smart, and just trying to figure life out. That scene where she accidentally becomes the wedding therapist? Iconic.
What shocked me was how DEEP it got while still being hilarious. One minute I'm laughing at the drunk aunt's speeches, next minute I'm crying over Phoebe's inner monologue about loneliness.
The writing is chef's kiss 👌 Alison Espach has this way of describing emotions that hits you right in the gut. That line about 'the quiet sadness of hotel rooms'? STILL thinking about it weeks later.
Only complaint? Some parts dragged a tiny bit when focusing on side characters I didn't care about as much. But Phoebe's journey more than made up for it.
Finished it in two days because I couldn't put it down. My husband kept giving me weird looks when I'd randomly gasp or laugh out loud reading in bed.
If you want something that's equal parts funny and profound, with characters that feel REAL - this is your next read. Just be prepared for the book hangover afterward!
