Just got my hands on this edition of *The Snow Queen*, and wow—Mary Engelbreit's illustrations are STUNNING. They capture the eerie beauty of Andersen's tale perfectly. It’s like stepping back into childhood.
Funny story: I remembered the smell of the pages from when I was a kid, and this copy? Same nostalgic scent. The story itself is darker than Disney’s *Frozen* (obviously), but that’s what makes it so special. It’s raw, magical, and oddly spiritual.
Read it to my niece, who only knew the movie version—her jaw dropped at the original plot twists. The oversized illustrations are gorgeous, though I wish they weren’t all center spreads (hard to read and admire at the same time).
PSA: This is NOT a fluffy bedtime story. Perfect for kids (or adults) who love a little darkness with their fairy tales. 10/10 would let the Snow Queen steal me away.
