Okay, so I finally got these TP-Link Tapo smart plugs and WOW do they make life easier! I was using these ancient timer plugs before that looked like something from the 80s. These? Super sleek and tiny - doesn't even block the second outlet!
The setup was ridiculously easy. Plugged it in, opened the app, and bam - connected in like 30 seconds. The app is actually pretty nice too with all these scheduling options. I've got mine set to turn my plant lights on/off automatically (my monstera is living its best life now).
Love that I can check energy usage too! Caught my roommate leaving the AC on full blast while we were away for the weekend. The charts make it super clear what's sucking up power.
Only minor gripe? Sometimes there's like a 2-second delay when using Alexa commands. But for $5 each in the 4-pack? Absolute steal. Way better than those fancy $20+ smart plugs I've tried before.
10/10 would recommend to anyone dipping their toes into smart home stuff. Just make sure your devices stay 'on' when power cuts (learned that the hard way with my grow lights).
