Just installed the Carter P4070 in my Jeep build with a Weber carb. Mounted it under the hood (against recommendations) for easy access, but it’s been flawless at 3psi—perfect for my setup. Silent operation, zero vibrations thanks to a heavy-duty hose dampener. Only 300 miles in, but so far, so good.
On the flip side, noise is a BIG issue for some. One user mentioned its mid-frequency hum is impossible to ignore when used as an auxiliary diesel lift pump. It’s reliable but sounds like a angry bee trapped in a tin can.
Quality control seems hit-or-miss. One reviewer got TWO defective pumps—one missing internal vanes (!), the other dying after 10 minutes. Carter’s warranty service sent replacements but left them hanging for months. Meanwhile, a $15 Chinese pump outlasted both.
Pro tip: Don’t skip the inlet filter or rubber hose connections. And maybe keep a spare—this pump either lasts years or craps out spectacularly.
