I've been using the SONOFF S40 Lite Zigbee smart plug for a few months now, and it's been a mixed bag—but mostly positive. First off, pairing was a breeze with my Zigbee2MQTT setup. No YAML edits needed—just plugged it in, and it immediately joined my network as a router. That’s a win for anyone who hates fiddling with configurations.
As a repeater, it does its job decently. My sensors on the far side of the house now have better signal strength, though I wouldn’t call it *amazing*. There are still occasional hiccups when the plug decides to blink its green light and temporarily drop connections. Not ideal for critical devices like door sensors (learned that the hard way when my alarm triggered falsely).
The compact design is great—it doesn’t hog adjacent outlets, which is rare for smart plugs. Voice control via Alexa works flawlessly, and scheduling sunrise/sunset routines is handy for lamps. But here’s the catch: after a power outage, it doesn’t auto-recover to its previous state. If you were running a heater or fan, you’ll need to manually toggle it back on. Annoying, but apparently this is industry standard (except for Zooz devices—note to self).
Bottom line: For the price, it’s a reliable Zigbee repeater and smart plug combo—just don’t expect rock-solid stability or post-outage convenience.
