Just finished 'Midnight Black,' and wow—Mark Greaney does it again! The action is relentless, especially in the last quarter of the book. Court Gentry's mission to infiltrate Russia and rescue Zoya had me on the edge of my seat. The tension is palpable, and Greaney’s knack for weaving multiple action sequences together is masterful.
What I loved most? The familiar faces—Zach, Hanley, and Zoya—all playing pivotal roles. Their dynamics add depth to the story, making it more than just a shoot-em-up. The prison break scene (around page 440) is worth the wait—intense, chaotic, and perfectly executed.
That said, the first half drags a bit. Some scenes felt like filler, and I found myself skimming until the pace picked up. And that ending? No spoilers, but it’s a game-changer for Gentry and Hanley. Not sure how I feel about it yet—bold move or unnecessary twist? Time will tell.
Minor gripes aside, this is one of the strongest entries in the series. If you’re a Gray Man fan, you’ll devour it. If you’re new, start from book one—you’ll appreciate the character arcs way more.
