I've been using this Mars Black dry pigment for a few projects now, and it's quickly become a staple in my art supplies. The first thing I noticed was how intense the color is – it's a true, deep black that makes other blacks look almost brown in comparison.
I primarily use it for coloring epoxy resin, and a little goes a long way. Just a small amount creates rich, opaque coverage. When I had some imperfections in a black spray-painted tumbler, this pigment covered them beautifully when mixed into epoxy.
The texture can be slightly chunky, which requires some extra effort during mixing. I found that crushing the chunks directly before mixing helps prevent raised spots in the final product. While the packaging could be clearer (some confusion with Burnt Sienna labeling), the pigment itself performs excellently.
At this price point for 4oz, it's an excellent value for artists working with various mediums. I'm definitely planning to try other colors from this line after my positive experience with Mars Black.
