Let me start by saying the Echo (4th Gen) in Twilight Blue is a massive upgrade from previous generations. The spherical design isn't just futuristic - it's functional. I've had mine mounted on the wall using the included 'Made for Amazon' mount for three months now, and it's transformed how I experience music and movies.
The sound quality blew me away. Unlike older models that fire sound downward, this one projects audio directly at you. When paired with another Echo 4th Gen as a stereo pair, it creates an immersive home theater experience. I watched Dune with this setup and actually jumped when spaceships flew 'behind' me - that's how good the directional audio is.
Setup was surprisingly simple. The wall mount offers incredible flexibility - you can tilt 30° and swivel 150° to direct sound exactly where you want it. I have mine angled toward my living room seating area, and Alexa hears me perfectly even with music playing at 70% volume.
There are some quirks though. The blue LED ring being on the bottom takes getting used to - I occasionally find myself looking at the wrong spot when waiting for Alexa to respond. And while the Zigbee hub is a nice bonus, most users (myself included) will probably never use it since modern smart devices connect directly via WiFi.
The real magic happens when you dive into Alexa routines. My 'Movie Night' routine dims my smart lights, turns on both Echos in home theater mode, and even orders popcorn from Amazon Fresh if I'm running low. It's these little conveniences that make the Echo feel indispensable once you start using them.
Is it perfect? No. The microphone array could be more sensitive - sometimes Alexa misses my commands if there's background noise. But considering how much better this sounds than my old Echo Plus while taking up less space? That's a trade-off I'm happy to make.
