Let me start by saying the DJI RS 4 Mini is hands-down the most impressive gimbal I've used in its class. The auto axis locks are an absolute revelation - no more fiddling with manual locks when you're trying to capture that perfect sunset shot. I can go from packed to ready-to-shoot in under 10 seconds, which has saved me countless missed opportunities.
The intelligent tracking works like magic for solo creators. I recently filmed my nephew's soccer game, and the gimbal kept him perfectly framed even as he zigzagged across the field. The responsive follow mode makes handheld shots buttery smooth - it feels like an extension of your arm rather than a separate device.
Balancing is ridiculously easy thanks to the Teflon-enhanced system. My Sony A7III with a 24-70mm lens balances in about a minute flat. The vertical switch feature has been a lifesaver for Instagram Reels - no more awkwardly holding my phone sideways!
Now for the not-so-great parts: The app situation is frustrating. Having to download outside Google Play feels sketchy, and the interface isn't as intuitive as it should be. I've also experienced those micro-jitters some reviewers mentioned, especially when panning quickly.
The lack of included case and phone mount at this price point feels cheap on DJI's part. And yes, that focus/zoom limitation where you can't use Bluetooth and wired connections simultaneously is baffling for a premium product.
Despite these flaws, when this gimbal works (which is most of the time), it's phenomenal. The footage quality elevates my work noticeably, and clients have specifically complimented the smoothness of my recent shots. Just be prepared to work around some quirks.
