If you're tired of constantly refilling your livestock's water trough, the Water Trough Float Valve might just be your new best friend. I've been using this for my pig pen, and let me tell you - it's been a game-changer.
The installation was surprisingly easy. It snaps right onto the side of the trough (though some users report needing longer screws for thicker tanks). The 3/4" garden hose connection is standard, though I did need to use some plumber's putty to prevent leaks at first.
What really impressed me was how well it holds up. My pigs are... let's say enthusiastic drinkers, but this plastic float has survived their chaotic water sessions without any issues. The ABS shell and galvanized steel bracket feel sturdy enough for farm use.
The automatic shut-off works like a charm - when the water reaches the set level, it slows to a trickle before stopping completely. No more overflowing troughs or wasted water!
However, there are a few things to note: The valve is larger than expected (about 7.5 inches), so you'll need space to hide it if aesthetics matter. Also, while durable, the plastic construction might not last forever in extreme weather conditions or with very hard water.
For the price, it's an excellent solution that saves me hours of manual filling each week. Just be prepared to potentially replace it every couple of years if you have harsh conditions.
