Okay, so I finally got my hands on this book after seeing it recommended everywhere in chicken groups. And wow, it did NOT disappoint!
First off, Kathy writes like your super knowledgeable but also hilarious chicken-obsessed aunt. The science-backed advice is gold, but she delivers it with personality (and adorable chicken pics).
As a newbie chicken mom, I was drowning in conflicting online advice until this book became my bible. From setting up my first coop to handling scaly leg mites (ew but necessary), it's saved me so much stress.
The myth-busting sections are EVERYTHING. Like no, you shouldn't just feed chickens kitchen scraps - their feed needs to be nutritionally complete! Who knew?
What surprised me most? Even after 2 years of keeping chickens, I still learned new things. The seasonal care tips and predator-proofing advice were next-level helpful.
Only tiny critique? Some veteran keepers might want more advanced info, but honestly? It's perfect for 99% of backyard flock owners.
PS - The photos of Rachel the celebrity chicken alone are worth the price. RIP queen 👑
