Let me start by saying – I never thought I'd enjoy a book about writing. As a biology major, my idea of fun is dissecting frogs, not dissecting sentences. But this book? It's different.
The pages have this smooth, almost velvety texture that makes flipping through them oddly satisfying (weird thing to notice, but trust me, it matters when you're forcing yourself to read). The font size and spacing are perfect – no squinting required after hours of lab work.
What shocked me most was how practical it is. The chapter on 'Writing When You'd Rather Be Doing Experiments' spoke to my soul. Real examples from actual scientific papers make the advice click in ways my English professor's lectures never did.
Is it perfect? Well, the binding feels a bit stiff when you first open it – takes a week of use to really break in. And while the bright white pages are easy on the eyes during daytime, they're slightly glare-y under bedside lamps.
After using this through my senior thesis: 10/10 would recommend to any STEM student who groans at writing assignments. It won't make you love writing, but it'll make you hate it less – and that's a win in my book.
