I recently purchased the AlphaTrak 3 Control Solution for my pet's glucose meter, and I have to say, the experience left me more frustrated than reassured.

The biggest issue? The shockingly short expiration date. My bottles arrived with just under 4 months before expiration, despite the product claiming it remains usable for 6 months after opening. This makes absolutely no sense - why would I pay for a product that might expire before I even finish using it?

What's particularly annoying is that the control solution that came with my original meter had a perfectly reasonable 18-month shelf life. This feels like a classic bait-and-switch situation where the standalone product is clearly inferior to what comes bundled.

The solution itself works fine when testing my meter's accuracy, but that's little consolation when I'm forced to repurchase every few months. At this price point, I expected better quality control and more reasonable expiration dates from a brand that's supposed to be helping me care for my diabetic pet.

Until they address these shelf life issues, I can't in good conscience recommend purchasing this separately. Either buy a new meter to get the better solution or look into alternative testing methods.
