Let me start by saying the SCRIB3D P1 3D pen is an absolute blast for creative projects! I've spent hours making everything from simple stencil designs to custom D&D miniatures. The included stencil book is genius for beginners - my nephew (with supervision) made a surprisingly good butterfly on his first try.
The pen itself feels lightweight and comfortable, even during long sessions. I particularly love the stepless speed control - it's perfect when you need precision for delicate work versus faster filling. The temperature adjustment (160-235°C) is also great for experimenting with different filaments.
However, there are some pain points. The included PLA filament runs out FAST - we burned through it in about 45 minutes of serious doodling. Also, the initial learning curve is steeper than expected. Getting consistent lines requires practice with speed/temperature balance (too fast = wobbly lines, too slow = clumping).
One major pro tip: Upgrade your PLA! The included filament tends to bubble and crackle at recommended temperatures. After switching to higher quality PLA (I use 3D Fuel), the difference was night-and-day in smoothness and adhesion.
The auto-sleep function works well for safety, though I wish the cord was more secure - a few times it seemed to disconnect if moved wrong. Also be prepared for that distinct melting plastic smell during use.
For repairs or joining 3D prints? Surprisingly effective once you master the technique of melting grooves first. Much better than glue for structural fixes!
Final verdict? At this price point, it's a fantastic starter pen despite minor flaws. Just buy extra filament immediately and expect a learning period. Not really suitable for unsupervised kids under 10 due to heat concerns.
