Let me start by saying this mouthpiece looks absolutely stunning with its gold plating. The finish is flawless, and it feels solid in your hands at 4 oz. But looks can be deceiving.
When I first tried playing, it was a disaster - constant squeaking no matter what reed I used. Turns out there's virtually no tip rail for the reed to vibrate properly. I had to spend about an hour carefully modifying the tip to create a playable surface (not something beginners should attempt).
After my modifications, the performance improved dramatically. The tone starts quite edgy but surprisingly grows on you the more you play. It particularly shines in the low register of my tenor sax, though you'll need softer reeds to make it work well there.
At $70, it's not bad if you know how to tweak mouthpieces, but definitely not plug-and-play. The complete lack of branding or documentation (just 'China' when I asked) is disappointing for the price point.
Final verdict? A decent project piece for intermediate players who don't mind some DIY adjustments, but look elsewhere if you want something ready-to-play out of the box.
