Okay, so I just finished reading The Giver and wow... just wow. This book hit me like a ton of bricks!
At first glance it seems like a simple YA dystopian story, but there's so much more going on beneath the surface. The whole concept of 'Sameness' is terrifying when you really think about it.
What got me the most was how Jonas starts seeing color after receiving memories from The Giver. Like, imagine living your whole life in black and white and suddenly seeing red for the first time? That scene gave me chills.
The part where Jonas discovers what 'release' really means absolutely destroyed me. I had to put the book down for like 10 minutes after that revelation.
What's crazy is how relevant this book feels today. With all the misinformation and media manipulation we deal with, the themes about controlling information hit way too close to home.
The ending left me with so many questions! Are they actually safe in Elsewhere? Is it all just a dying hallucination? I've been thinking about it for days now.
Honestly, this is one of those books that changes how you see the world. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who likes having their mind blown.
