I've been using the HP 14 laptop for a few weeks now, and it's been a mixed bag. The first thing that struck me was how lightweight and portable it is. At just under 3 pounds, it's perfect for tossing in my backpack when I'm on the go.
The display is decent for basic tasks - watching YouTube videos or browsing social media looks fine, though colors aren't super vibrant. What surprised me was how much screen real estate you get thanks to those thin bezels.
Performance-wise, this isn't a powerhouse. Opening more than 5 Chrome tabs makes it start chugging along like an old steam engine. But for writing documents in Word or checking emails? It handles those just fine.
The storage situation is... interesting. 64GB fills up faster than you'd think after Windows takes its share. I followed another reviewer's advice and plugged in a tiny USB flash drive that now lives permanently in one of the ports - problem solved!
One thing nobody warned me about was Windows 11 in S mode. It felt like being trapped in a walled garden where only Microsoft-approved apps could play. Removing S mode was easy enough, but it's irreversible so think carefully before doing it.
The keyboard is comfortable for typing, though I do miss backlighting when working in dim cafes. Battery life gets me through about 6 hours of actual use - not amazing but adequate for my needs.
Would I recommend this? If you need an affordable, ultra-portable machine for very basic tasks and don't mind its limitations, sure. But if you're planning to do anything more intensive than web browsing and document editing, look elsewhere.
