Just got my hands on the Kenwood ProTalk NX-P1302AU walkie-talkie, and here's the real tea after testing it at my construction site for a month.
The Good: This thing is BUILT. Dropped it twice from scaffolding (oops) and it didn't even blink. The IP54/55 rating is legit - survived a sudden downpour without issues. Audio quality? Crystal clear even when half my crew was screaming over machinery noise.
Channel Game Strong: 64 channels across 4 zones means we never have radio traffic jams. The digital upgrade option is nice for future-proofing, though we're sticking with analog for now.
Not-So-Good: Range claims are... optimistic. Got about 0.7 miles max before voices turned into robot sounds. Also had one unit arrive DOA (Kenwood replaced it no questions asked though).
Pro Tip: Programming isn't plug-and-play - had to YouTube some tutorials. Works fine with our other Kenwoods but had hiccups with mixed brand setups.
Bottom line? If you need tough radios that won't quit, these deliver. Just don't expect miracle range or effortless setup.
