I recently tried the Autocare Heavyweight Oil Absorbing Pads in my garage, and here's the real deal. First off, don't let the 'heavyweight' name fool you—these are surprisingly thin. The entire stack of 50 pads is only about 4.25 inches tall, which was a bit disappointing compared to the product image.
That said, they do work as advertised for small oil spills. I used them under my car after an oil change, and they absorbed the drips quickly without leaving any residue. The bright white color makes it easy to spot where the oil was absorbed, which is handy for tracking leaks.
I also tested them in my boat's engine space, and they performed well there too. They repel water while soaking up oil, which is perfect for marine use. However, if you're dealing with larger spills, you might need multiple pads or a thicker alternative.
While they're not as heavy-duty as I expected, they're still effective for everyday use. Just don't expect them to handle massive spills on their own.
