After a month with the Cielo Smart Thermostat, I'm impressed by its value but found some quirks. The matte black touchscreen looks sleek on my hallway wall, and the physical buttons are satisfyingly clicky – a nice touch when my hands are wet from gardening.
Installation was surprisingly DIY-friendly. The included C-wire adapter saved me $150 on an electrician visit. Though I panicked when my HVAC didn't kick on immediately, the thermostat's self-diagnostic screen clearly showed I'd reversed the Y1 and W1 wires – fixed in two minutes flat.
Where this really shines is geofencing. Coming home to a pre-cooled house after work feels luxurious, especially when I see my energy bill dropped 18% last month. The 'Pets' mode gives me peace of mind knowing my dog isn't panting while I'm stuck in traffic.
However, programming feels like solving a puzzle. Creating separate 'Weekday' and 'Weekend' schedules instead of one adaptive program seems unnecessarily complicated. At 2AM when my heat pump suddenly switched to cooling mode (during a 40°F night!), I learned firmware updates are crucial – support walked me through it patiently.
The app's energy usage graphs are fascinating but lack context. I'd love to compare this July's usage to last year's before installing Cielo. Minor gripes aside, for half the price of premium brands, this delivers core smart features effectively once you learn its personality.
