As someone who recently invested in a Zojirushi bread maker, I was excited to find a cookbook specifically tailored for it. Unfortunately, 'The Effortless Zojirushi Bread Maker Cookbook' left me more frustrated than fulfilled.
The biggest issue? The book constantly references cycles that don't exist on my Zojirushi BB-PDC20. There's no 'basic cycle' as mentioned - just confusion when trying to match their instructions to my machine's actual settings. I spent more time guessing ('Is French cycle the same as European?') than actually baking.
When I tried substituting cycles based on web research (using 'quick white' instead of the non-existent 'sweet cycle'), the result was an underbaked mess that ruined my ingredients and afternoon.
The recipes themselves feel suspiciously generic - like they were copied from random online sources rather than developed specifically for Zojirushi machines. As any serious baker knows, volumetric measurements (cups instead of weights) are practically useless for consistent results.
It's particularly frustrating because there are glimpses of potential here. The book is visually appealing with a nice variety of recipes. But without accurate machine-specific guidance or proper measurement techniques, it's ultimately just a pretty paperweight for serious bakers.
After multiple failed attempts and wasted ingredients, I'm joining other reviewers in returning this book. My advice? Save your money and look for online communities where actual Zojirushi owners share tested recipes with proper weights and verified cycle settings.
