Let me start by saying this: the B&W Formation Audio is an absolute beast when it comes to sound quality. I've been using it in my home office for about a month now, and every time I turn it on, I'm reminded why premium audio gear is worth the investment.
The highs are crystal clear, mids are rich and detailed, and the bass? Oh man, the bass is surprisingly punchy for a single speaker. I've had moments where I had to check if my neighbors could hear it because my lazyboy chair was literally vibrating during intense bass drops.
Setup was... interesting. Like some reviewers mentioned, the documentation is practically non-existent. I spent a good 30 minutes fumbling through the app before everything clicked. Once set up though, it's been rock solid - no drops or lag even when streaming hi-res 24-bit/96kHz files.
The multi-room feature is where this really shines. I paired it with another Formation speaker in my bedroom, and being able to sync playback or play different songs in each room is magical. The B&W Music App could use some polish though - it's functional but not as intuitive as Sonos' system.
Now for the not-so-great parts: That 'Alexa compatibility' claim feels misleading. You absolutely need an external Alexa device to use voice control - there's no built-in mic here. And that $100 wall mount? That's just greedy, B&W.
At this price point ($500), you're paying for that legendary B&W sound quality and build (it looks like a piece of modern art). But be prepared for some quirks along the way. If you can overlook those and want audiophile-grade wireless streaming, this delivers in spades.
