Just finished reading 'Number the Stars' and wow, it hit me right in the feels! Lois Lowry somehow makes WWII history feel personal through 10-year-old Annemarie's eyes. That scene where she pretends to be a silly girl to deliver the package? Absolute chills!
The book arrived in perfect condition (no dog-eared pages, thank goodness!). I'm kinda obsessed with how the cover art matches the story's mood - simple but powerful, just like Annemarie's journey.
What surprised me most was how much tension Lowry creates without graphic violence. The soldiers' boots clicking on cobblestones had me holding my breath more than any action movie! Also low-key cried when Ellen finally came back after the war.
Pro tip: Don't skip the author's note at the end! Learning this was based on real Danish resistance efforts made the story hit even harder. Currently forcing all my book club friends to read it - that's how good it is.
