Okay, so I just finished 'The Last Thing He Told Me' and WOW. First off, Reese Witherspoon has great taste because this book had me hooked from page one.
The relationship between Hannah and Bailey? SO complicated but so real. That stepmom-stepdaughter dynamic was messy in the best way possible. And that twist at the end? Did NOT see that coming!
Small rant though - some of the Austin details were way off. Like calling it 'Congress Street Bridge' when locals know it's Congress Avenue Bridge? And saying there are 'hundreds' of bats when we're talking 1.5 MILLION bats? Come on Laura Dave, do your research!
Also... the mafia in Texas? Really? As someone who lives here, that plot point had me rolling my eyes so hard. The cartels run things down here, not some Italian mobsters straight out of a Scorsese film.
But despite these little nitpicks, I DEVOURED this book in like two days. Couldn't put it down! The way Hannah ultimately chooses Bailey over Owen? Powerful stuff. And Jennifer Garner absolutely killed it in the TV adaptation too.
Final verdict: 4/5 stars (would be 5 if not for those Texas inaccuracies). Definitely recommend if you want a thriller with heart and complex female characters!
