Okay, so I wasn't expecting to fall THIS hard for a Stephen King book that isn't straight-up horror. Fairy Tale? More like 'Fairly Obsessed' because I couldn't put it down!
The dog Radar stole my heart immediately (animal lovers, prepare to cry). Charlie's journey from our world to Empis felt like falling down the creepiest, most fascinating rabbit hole ever. The world-building? *Chef's kiss*
Warning: This ain't no Disney fairytale. The 'other world' is decaying and terrifying in that special King way - think grey-skinned people, cursed royals, and some seriously messed up creatures. That dead mermaid scene? Yeah, I'll be having nightmares.
What surprised me most was how emotional it got. Charlie's relationship with Mr. Bowditch had me tearing up, and the ending was bittersweet perfection. Also major props for the gorgeous chapter illustrations!
If you're on the fence because 'it's not horror', take the plunge anyway. It's dark fantasy at its finest with King's signature storytelling magic.
