Okay, so I just finished 'Butterfly Kisses' and wow—Patrick Logan knows how to write a page-turner! The story follows Detective Damien Drake, a broken alcoholic cop haunted by his past. The way Logan weaves in the medical examiner details (thanks to his own background as a pathologist) makes everything feel so chillingly real.
The dynamic between Drake and rookie detective Chase Adams is gold. She’s fresh, determined, and somehow manages to put up with his self-destructive habits. Their banter kept me hooked even when the case got seriously dark (those butterflies? CREEPY).
I will say—Drake’s drinking got a bit excessive for my taste. Like, how is this man even functional? But hey, flawed heroes are more interesting, right? The twists had me guessing until the very end, though I wish there was more closure instead of setting up for the next book.
Also, minor gripe: the grammar errors were noticeable. Still, the plot and characters more than made up for it. If you love gritty police procedurals with a horror edge (think Robert Bryndza but darker), this is your next read. Just maybe don’t start it before bed—you won’t sleep.
