After using the VSVABEFV R816US portable WiFi router for a month during my Europe trip, I can confidently say it's a mixed bag. The compact size and 2400mAh battery make it perfect for tossing in your backpack, but there are some quirks you should know about.
The setup process was surprisingly smooth once I disabled my SIM card's PIN (the manual clearly explains this). I loved seeing real-time data usage on the screen - no more guessing how much bandwidth I've burned through Instagram reels! The ability to connect up to 10 devices came in clutch when my travel squad needed simultaneous connectivity.
Speed-wise, streaming Netflix in HD was possible in cities (using a local SIM in Germany), though rural areas saw significant drops. The advertised 50M range held true in open spaces, but hotel walls cut this distance by half. That TF card slot became unexpectedly useful for sharing travel photos when WiFi wasn't available.
Now for the frustrations: Like several reviewers mentioned, mine also developed charging issues after three weeks - sometimes taking 6+ hours to fully charge. The random shutdowns (especially at 30% battery) were maddening during important video calls. And be warned: APN settings must be manually configured for most carriers, which isn't beginner-friendly.
While it worked perfectly with my T-Mobile SIM stateside, compatibility claims seem exaggerated. My friend's Canadian carrier SIM never connected despite being on the 'supported' list. The lack of roaming support also limits its usefulness for multi-country trips unless you buy local SIMs everywhere.
For $60, it's decent value if you get a working unit - just pack a power bank and patience. I'd recommend it cautiously to tech-savvy travelers who need basic connectivity, but business users or those needing reliability should look at more premium options.
