Okay, so I just finished Open Season and wow, Kellerman does it again! This is my 12th Alex Delaware book, and I swear they never get old. The way he blends psychology with crime-solving is just *chef's kiss*.
Milo and Alex feel like my weird uncles at this point – the kind who solve murders instead of arguing about politics at Thanksgiving. The LA details? Spot on. I’ve never been, but now I feel like I could navigate Silver Lake blindfolded (though maybe not at night, given the plot).
Small rant though: the victim/perpetrator web got SO tangled around chapter 15 that I had to scribble a family tree in my notebook. My cat walked over it thinking it was her new murder mystery plot (see what I did there?). Still, that final reveal? Absolutely worth the confusion.
Pro tip: Read this with coffee during daylight hours. Made the mistake of starting at midnight ‘for just one chapter’ and suddenly it’s 3AM and I’m side-eyeing my neighbor’s weird gardening habits.
4/5 stars - minus one for making me question every nice old lady at my local clinic now. Thanks for that, Kellerman.
