I recently picked up the Complete Estonian Beginner to Intermediate Book, hoping it would be my gateway to mastering this unique language. The book itself is well-structured, with clear explanations and a logical progression from basics to more complex concepts.
However, the lack of included audio in the Kindle version was a major disappointment. In today's digital age, expecting learners to have a CD player feels outdated. I found myself constantly searching online for pronunciation guides to supplement the material.
The exercises are practical and help reinforce learning, but they become significantly less effective without the accompanying audio component. I noticed my pronunciation skills lagging far behind my reading comprehension.
While the content is thorough, the presentation could be more engaging. Compared to other language resources I've used (like those for English and German), this one feels somewhat dry and academic in its approach.
That said, when used with external audio resources, it does provide a solid foundation in Estonian grammar and vocabulary. I just wish the publishers would modernize their approach to match how people actually learn languages today.
