Just finished 'The Waiting' by Michael Connelly, and wow – it's another masterpiece. The way Connelly blends multiple plotlines is pure genius. I found myself completely absorbed in Ballard's hunt for a serial rapist while also stressing over her stolen badge and gun. The tension is real!
What surprised me most was Maddie Bosch's role. Watching Harry's daughter step into the investigative world added such a fresh dynamic. That moment when she brings up the Black Dahlia case? Chills. Connelly makes cold cases feel urgent and personal.
The procedural details are fascinating too – especially the ear measurement technique for identifying killers. It's these little authentic touches that make Connelly's world feel so real. I could practically smell the coffee in that cramped police office.
While Harry's screen time is limited (fair warning for Bosch superfans), his brief appearances are perfectly timed. That scene where he helps Ballard recover her badge? Classic Bosch – all quiet intensity and sharp instincts.
Finished it in three sleepless nights. Now suffering from that bittersweet post-Connelly void where no other crime novel seems quite as gripping. Already counting days till the next one!
