Just finished reading 'The In-Between' and wow - this book hit me right in the feels. Nurse Hadley's stories about her hospice patients are equal parts heartbreaking and comforting.
What surprised me most was how many patients see loved ones before passing. Like that lady laughing with her long-gone sister? Chills. Makes you wonder about what really happens in those final moments.
As someone who recently lost a friend's mom, this book gave me unexpected peace. That story about the mom saying 'not yet' to unseen visitors? So similar to what we witnessed. Maybe death isn't as scary as we think.
Pro tip: Keep tissues handy. I cried through half the stories but in a good, cathartic way. The homeless man's story especially wrecked me - everyone deserves dignity at the end.
Finished it in one weekend because I couldn't put it down. Now I'm telling all my friends to read it. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who's ever loved someone.
