Just finished 'Eruption' and wow, what a ride! As a longtime Crichton fan, I was skeptical about this posthumous collaboration with Patterson, but it delivers that classic 'science-gone-wild' adrenaline rush we love.
The pacing is PERFECT for busy readers - I devoured it in 3 nights despite my crazy schedule. Short chapters (some just 2 pages!) make it dangerously easy to say 'just one more' until 2AM.
PROS: The science feels authentic without becoming a textbook (looking at you, Jurassic Park). The volcanic premise is terrifyingly plausible - I kept checking Hawaii volcano alerts while reading! Patterson's influence shows in the breakneck pacing, while Crichton's fingerprints are all over the ethical dilemmas.
CONS: Some character arcs feel rushed, and science purists might balk at a few creative liberties (my biologist spouse certainly did). The modern tech references (social media, space billionaires) occasionally feel forced - like watching your dad try to use TikTok.
Perfect for: Airport reads, thriller junkies, or anyone who misses that unique Crichton blend of brains and explosions. Just don't start it on a work night - you WILL call in 'sick' to finish it.
