Just got my hands on the Akai MPK Mini Plus, and wow—this little beast packs a punch! The 37 mini keys took some getting used to (my piano-trained fingers felt cramped at first), but after a few sessions, I was flying through melodies.
The 8 MPC pads are *chef’s kiss*—responsive, with just the right amount of squish. I’ve been hammering out drum patterns in Ableton, and the RGB feedback is oddly satisfying. Also, shoutout to the pitch/mod wheels—they feel premium, not like the wobbly afterthoughts on some controllers.
Portability? 10/10. Tossed it in my backpack for a weekend trip, and it survived my chaotic travel style. The USB/MIDI/CV connectivity options are clutch for my hybrid setup (yes, I plugged it into a modular synth, and it didn’t explode).
Downsides? The keys are plasticky (obviously), and the included software bundle requires a PhD in license redemption. But for the price? Zero regrets. If you need a compact controller that doesn’t sacrifice functionality, this is it.
