Okay, so I finally got my hands on the Dimarzio Tone Zone pickup and wow, this thing is a beast!
First impression? Creamy mid-range for days. I accidentally installed it in the neck position first (whoops) but even there it sounded surprisingly good with my tube amp cranked up.
The versatility is insane - works great in my cheap backup guitar where the stock pickups were trash. Suddenly my $200 guitar sounds like it costs ten times more!
Warning though: MAKE SURE you get the F-spaced version if your guitar needs it. Learned that the hard way and had to redo the whole installation (facepalm).
Compared to my usual Seymour Duncans? Different vibe for sure. The Tone Zone runs hotter and has this aggressive character that just cuts through mixes. Not for everyone, but perfect if you want that modern high-gain sound without losing articulation.
Would I recommend? Absolutely, but maybe not as your first pickup swap. It's got a very specific voice that either works for your style or doesn't. For me? It's staying in my main axe!
