Let me start by saying this: if you're a fan of LitRPG and progression fantasy, this book is a must-read. The action is non-stop, the characters are engaging, and the world-building is solid. I found myself eagerly turning pages, especially during the epic battle sequences where Sam and his crew absolutely dominate.
However, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. There were moments where I couldn't help but roll my eyes at some of the plot conveniences. Sam's sudden 'aha!' moments felt a bit too deus ex machina for my taste. I mean, come on—if you're going to drop major revelations about his mysterious past, at least give us some proper foreshadowing!
One thing that really stood out to me was the dynamic between Sam and Dante. Is Dante truly evil, or is he just playing 4D chess with fate? The ambiguity here adds a layer of intrigue that keeps me hooked. But then again, the whole 'Death Knight with blood powers on top of existing blood powers' thing felt unnecessarily convoluted. It’s like the author threw in extra toppings without checking if the pizza could handle it.
Despite its flaws, I had a blast reading this book. The pacing was great, and seeing the characters grow stronger—albeit a bit slower this time around—was satisfying. If you can overlook some of the lazy writing choices and enjoy it for what it is (a fun, action-packed romp), you’ll have a good time.
Final verdict? Worth checking out if you’re already invested in the series, but don’t expect groundbreaking storytelling. Here’s hoping Book 5 tightens up the plot!
