Let me start by saying these GE Cync Reveal lights are seriously bright - almost too bright! I installed them in my kitchen and had to immediately dim them down because eight of these in one room feels like you're standing under stadium lights. The color options are fantastic though, with everything from cozy warm amber (perfect for movie nights) to cool bluish tones (great for morning productivity).
The installation was... an adventure. While they advertise 'no recessed can housing needed,' getting them flush with the ceiling took way more effort than expected. I spent about 30 minutes per light wrestling with the side brackets - they kept pushing down and leaving gaps. Pro tip: have some patience and maybe an extra pair of hands ready.
Smart features are where things get frustrating. The Cync app is painfully slow once you have more than a few devices connected. Turning lights on/off sometimes has a 3-4 second delay, and firmware updates? Forget about it - constant errors and unresponsive lights afterwards. I eventually gave up and connected them through Home Assistant instead, which worked much better.
Voice control through Alexa/Google works decently for basic on/off commands, but don't expect to change colors with voice commands. Also be warned - these ONLY work with 2.4GHz WiFi networks. If your router combines bands automatically, you'll need to create a separate network just for these lights.
Despite the headaches, when they work properly, the lighting quality is excellent. The 'Reveal' setting adds beautiful depth to colors, and the ability to schedule lighting scenes is great for waking up gradually or coming home to a well-lit house.
Final verdict? Great potential held back by buggy software. If you're tech-savvy enough to bypass the Cync app (like using Home Assistant), these can be fantastic smart lights. But casual users might find the connectivity issues too frustrating for the price.
