Let me tell you, this book had me hooked from the moment I cracked it open. The dual POVs between Maya and her late sister Naomi created this delicious tension where I constantly felt like I was on the verge of figuring things out - but never quite getting there until the very end.
What really worked for me was how the secret society element wasn't just window dressing. These characters made genuinely terrible decisions that had real consequences, giving me that perfect blend of schadenfreude and morbid fascination. The dark academia vibes were strong with this one - think candlelit rituals meets Ivy League prestige meets downright messy human behavior.
I will say the middle section dragged a bit - there were moments where I had to flip back to remember whose perspective I was reading because the voices blurred together. But when Part 4 hit? Absolute fireworks. That ending came out of nowhere and left my jaw on the floor (even if it did require some suspension of disbelief).
The short chapters made this dangerously easy to binge - I lost track of how many times I told myself 'just one more chapter' at 1 AM. If you're into twisty mysteries with unlikeable-but-fascinating characters, this delivers in spades. Just maybe keep a character chart handy for the first hundred pages.
