Let me start by saying this: the Amazon Basics Emergency Seat Belt Cutter and Window Hammer Tool is something you hope you'll never need, but you'll be incredibly grateful to have if an emergency strikes. I've had these in my car for about six months now, and while I haven't had to use them in a real emergency (thankfully), I've tested them out to see how they perform.
The first thing that struck me was how compact yet sturdy these tools are. The bright orange handles make them easy to spot in a panic situation, and they fit perfectly in my car's door pocket. The weight feels just right - heavy enough to deliver a solid blow to a window, but light enough that it won't be cumbersome to handle.
I tested the seat belt cutter on an old belt, and while it did require some pressure, it sliced through cleanly. The tungsten hammer heads feel incredibly solid - I actually used one to break an old glass bottle (safely!) just to see how it would perform, and it shattered the glass with a single sharp tap.
The included mounting brackets are a nice touch, though I wish they came with adhesive or screws for more secure placement. Right now mine are just wedged into place in my door pocket where they're easily accessible but won't go flying in case of sudden stops.
My only minor complaint is that the plastic handles could feel slightly more premium - they're functional but don't have that 'premium' feel. However, at this price point for two units, that's really nitpicking.
What really sold me on these was when I gave one set to my sister who frequently drives near lakes with her kids. The peace of mind knowing she has this tool within reach is priceless. These are absolutely worth having in every vehicle - they might just save your life someday.
