Let me start by saying this: the ecobee EB-STATE3LTP-02 is one of the smartest thermostats I've used. The auto-schedule feature is magical - after about a week of use, it learned my temperature preferences so well that I barely need to touch it anymore. Waking up to a perfectly warmed bedroom in winter without setting alarms? Yes please!
The location-based temperature adjustment is another winner. When my phone leaves the house, the thermostat automatically dials down the heat to save energy. Coming home to a cozy house without wasting energy all day feels like living in the future.
Installation was straightforward thanks to the included Power Extender Kit (PEK). While some users struggled with wiring diagrams (I feel you!), I found the process manageable after watching a couple of installation videos. Pro tip: take photos of your old thermostat wiring before removing it - this saved me when I got confused.
Now for the not-so-great parts. That 45°F minimum setting? It's frustrating when you're trying to prevent freezing in uninsulated spaces like garages or workshops. The temperature offset workaround helps, but it's clunky and makes the display inaccurate.
The design could use some updates too. Unlike some competitors, you can't rotate the display for different mounting orientations. And while it looks sleek on my wall, direct sunlight sometimes makes the screen hard to read - surprising they didn't include an ambient light sensor.
Despite these quirks, after using two units (upstairs and downstairs) for several months, I'm mostly satisfied. The energy savings are real, and controlling everything through my phone never gets old. Just know what you're getting into with those temperature limitations before buying for unconventional spaces.
