Okay, so I finally read this Reese's Book Club pick after seeing it EVERYWHERE. And wow—it totally sucked me in! The whole stepmom-daughter dynamic mixed with a mystery? Genius.
The writing is so sharp and immersive. I felt Hannah's panic when Owen vanished, and her struggle to connect with Bailey felt painfully real. That scene where they're decoding clues in Austin? My heart was racing!
BUT...the Texas details drove me nuts. As someone who's visited Austin, the errors (like calling it 'Congress Street Bridge'—um, no) kept pulling me out of the story. And the mob subplot? In TEXAS? Girl...
Still devoured it in two days though! The emotional payoff between Hannah and Bailey made up for the plot holes. That ending wrecked me—when Hannah chooses Bailey over Owen? TEARS.
Would recommend for: • Mystery lovers who want FEELINGS • Fans of messy family dynamics • Anyone who enjoys books you can't put down (seriously, cancel your plans)
Just maybe don't think too hard about the logistics 😉
